  • Here we are

170121 Womens March Santa Rosa (8)

Here we are amongst the most and the least of the people
Here we are searching for wisdom and value
Here we find our valor to change the ways of the world
And raise up our selves and our society

Here we are amongst the most and the least of the people
Here we declare that kindness is simple although not always easy
Here we are amongst ourselves because we are the least and the most of the people

We hold these truths to be self evident
that all people are created equal
And endowed by our Creator with life liberty and happiness

Here we are amongst the people, in our times,
To still strive for happiness in life as a free people

Here we are, sisters and brothers,
We stand as one democratic nation
    To uphold our constitution
And strive to do what is best for all the people
    And our planet

Here we are amongst the most and the least of our people
To assure that they are housed and have a pillow for their dreams

  • Like lilies and ivy

    Happy Easter, internet.

The ivy will rise and lilies will grow
Upon the detritus of what little we know
Needles or leaves, byproducts of trees, upon the ground
Hold space and protection as sprouts they surround
The earth it transforms although it is just dirt
It keeps changing components to something of worth
Like lilies and ivy which use what is there
To sprout up through the ground cover and find the air

  • pigeons on a lamp post

    pigeons on a lamp post
    watching cars go by
    wondering where they’re going
    really don’t care why

    pigeons on a wire
    high above street
    pigeons don’t need no cars
    they’re already complete

    pigeons flock together
    flying through the sky
    all for each other
intertwined in life and the by and by

  • Like hearts in the wind

    Sunflowers & wine

    The kindness of poverty
    The poverty of kindness
    Has overtaken us
    In the midst
    Of a blessed holiday season

    Like hearts in the wind
    Spinning on each breath
    Love and spirit ride
    On a whirlwind of Hope
    Full Community flying

    Like hearts in the wind
    Wholly seen
    Without a screen
    In this holy season
    We call life

    A selfish loss finds us
    And sneaks up behind us
Awaiting a time to be seen

    True lives and desires
    Each one conspires
To find the space of one

    Though memories long gone
    Creep into this song
And make the new dawn much brighter

    Hold on spinning hearts
    Hold on to each other
Living each day and its parts.

    May blessings of sky
    And blessings of water
    Come to us now
And our sons and our daughters

    For life’s days are blessed
    And life stages are few
    Now that we’re here
I am glad I am with you.

    Our blessed in life
    Are blessed tonight
No one is sad or blue

    Come together now
    This is how
    We’ll last
    Our whole lives through

  • Ferocious fierce kindness [a definitions poem]

    Homeless not hopeless
    Ferocious fierce kindness
    Fierce kindness drives me
    Relentless inspiration
    Breathe of re-creation
    Of the stuff of life
    Relentless in the pursuit
Of the best for each person
    Judgment be damned
    Until equity reigns
    To begin again
    And toil anew
    Here I stand
    Awaiting you

    <><><>

Homeless not hopeless (feeling or causing despair about something)
Ferocious (aggression, bitterness [anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly; resentment] and determination )
fierce (showing a heartfelt and powerful intensity )
    kindness (friendly, generous, and considerate)
Fierce kindness drives me (propel or carry along by force in a specified direction
    Relentless (oppressively constant; incessant)
inspiration (mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.)
    Breathe of re-creation
Of the stuff of life (the existence of an individual human being or animal)
Relentless in the pursuit (an activity of a specified kind
Of the best for each person (of the most excellent, effective, or desirable type or quality)
Judgment be damned (condemned to suffer eternal punishment)
Until equity (being fair and impartial.)
Reigns (to hold or exercise sovereign power)
To begin again (perform or undergo the first part)
And toil anew (work extremely hard or incessantly)
Here I stand (in, at, or to this place or position)
Awaiting you (be in store for you)

  • Don Quixote days

    My cape is tattered.
    My mind is weary
My world is small with overwhelming problems
My heart beats on as I cling to the resolve
    My abilities require of me
My vision is clear but my influence is limited
My intelligence fails in the face of the crowd
Dominated by myopia instead of my utopia
My plan to go forward, despite these odds
In all these Don Quixote days
Is born afresh along with Sancho Panza’s
    Mystical ideals.
Who will be my Sancho Panza?

  • All Souls day

I think it’s more important to celebrate All Souls day than to celebrate All Saints Day

Today November 1st is All Saints Day. We already know they are holy so they’re supposed to be paying attention to us not us paying attention to them.

November 2nd is All Souls day the day that commemorates the rest of us; the 99.999 percent of the souls who live their lives and did not become saints. I think we should remember them and pray for them and ask them to pray for us because this is what we all share – a soul and a life.

  • How to be in love

    A person’s heart and life
    Expand as love takes hold

All that they do and think
    Becomes better

    Each person discovers
The breadth and depth of joy

    tree portal 161103 (4)

I can last through any travail
When trees are right beside me.
The breezes blow out on the beach.
    Until gale forces rise again.
The heart transcends the calms or gales
    And holds to solid center
    Of love and kindness
The anchor made in times like these
    Holds beyond life’s evidence

  • An Evening Prayer for Lucille (my mother)

    161019 Bantam (10)

    Take me to a place
    Where there are sunflowers
    And tea
    And the poems of Sunday
The palms from trees adorned the cross of mission life.
The mission of life is to cross over to the trees.
    Blessed are the flowers
And the trees and the cross and the earth
The mission of life may be to adore the flowers
    Maybe
    Psalms down through the days
Sing praise when it is due
Thanks be given for sunflowers and tea
