  • rest in peace

    St. Rose Church Baptismal font

The grace of the Creator finds the souls

The father who did the best he could
May his soul rest in peace

The young woman who struggled and strived and fell to evil
May her soul rest in peace

The child who lost her life from the death brought by war
May her soul rest in peace

The son, the daughter, the child, the adult
The joy and the sorrow that will not be known
Because their souls rest in peace

May their souls rest in peace
May their life’s lessons be made clear to the souls yet to find peace

[All souls’ mass at St. Rose]

    Of sadness and lost joy

  • Poems are words

    Poems are words
    Floating in the air
    Blown on the wind
    Spinning about
    With their own meaning
    Lonely until joined together
    By a thought

    A statement flows
    But it is no poem
    Directions are given
But those words are not a poem, usually
    Random thoughts expressed
    As words
Come closer to being a poem

    Then a phrase,
A joining, or a theme emerges

    Some words are grasped
    And drawn down
    To paper or voice
    So they can be repeated

    Once captured from the wind
    Together they can form
    A poem
    Good or bad
    A poem nonetheless
    And the joiner of words
    Gathered from the random wind
    Becomes a poet

    I was always an optimist
seeing the hopeful side of things.
As a young child I was the optimistic helper and pleaser.
Then I became the lucky optimist – fortunately sliding through the teen years.
The naïve optimist worked for years
    thinking I understood change
and could change people and systems.
Moving through time the realistic optimist realized
there were limits to one person’s ability to move the Whole forward.
    The optimistic fatalist emerged
to graciously accept what the fates bestowed.
What kind of optimist will I be next?
    The optimist of the light?

  • Held in the hand of the Creator

Something permanent and long lasting flows out of each person
like ink to paper flows through the writing instrument.
The ink has form and function
but only becomes meaningful and significant
when held in the hand of the Creator.

The pen does not resist moving
nor the ink form its own words.
The tinge of color becomes something else,
    something more,
when it flows out of the tip
    and shows the words.

And all of us, each person, is as different as can be.

Yet the Creator can pick up any pen
and form words of beauty and higher meaning
so long as the pen does not resist
    and the ink flows.
We each let the ink form meaning.

  • from just these thoughts

I don’t even understand the mixed messages I send.
    I tell others to leave us be;
    leave us alone.
    At the same time
    I care for them
    and wish them well.
    I don’t look for understanding,
    although
I wish these others would understand.
    Their acceptance without implied judgment
    is what I hope for.

I don’t have a way to share this
    because that door is closed;
    and the window’s open
    just a crack
    so I can hear.

How come relationships have to be
as defined by one of the parties
    and it is not accepted
    that the relationship
    is
    permanently changed?

    So many questions arise
    from just these thoughts,
    but the point is
    I don’t offer answers.
