  • Courts in Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties – construction

I have a very high opinion of the people who lead the California Courts, starting with Hon. Ronald M. George, Chief Justice of California Supreme Court and William C. Vickrey, the Administrative Director of the Courts. I was privileged from 2000 through 2005 to be a Court staff member and saw from the inside many thoughtful and conscientious public servants.

The North Bay has become aware of the Court construction process on 02/06/2010 by new announcements. I pulled together a few links as reference.

I would encourage anyone who would like, to contact the leaders of the local court and the state office to respectfully share a perspective. I believe that it will be graciously received and sincerely considered. See these websites for information.

Lake: Judge Richard C. Martin is the Presiding Judge Court Executive Officer:Mary E. Smith

Mendocino: Judge Cindee Mayfield is the Presiding Judge for calendar year 2009. The Court Executive Officer is Benjamin Stough.

Sonoma: Judge Gary Nadler is the Presiding Judge Executive Officer: José Octavio Guillén

The California Superior Court has developed a useful and informative process for moving forward. Their current plans are here. The facilities component can be found on page 48 of “The Operational Plan for California’s Judicial Branch, 2008–2011.” The Office of Court Construction and Management can be found here.

Here is the process that Sonoma, Mendocino & Lake Counties are going through.

I have this picture on my office wall.

  • Some ideas for the New Twitter User

    Hi, welcome to Twitter.

This was written for a friend about getting started in Twitter but I’ll share it here.

From my perspective there are several subcategories of Twitter activity. Twitter itself has a lot of other information to help get started.

    Go to Help @ Twitter.com

The types of users I’ve encountered are:
Personal acquaintances. The original Twitter concept… Twitter back and forth about what you are doing, how’s it going, where do you want to meet, etc. For me these are our sons and other relatives and a few friends.

The second group, which I use the most, are the interest groups on subjects, politics, celebrities, sports, etc. I’ll describe below how to find them. A significant aspect of the issues groups, and businesses too, is that they use Twitter to link folks back to their most current blog, web post, etc.

The third type are the folks who see Twitter as a new version of network marketing and business development. They tend to follow a lot of people and often have a large number of followers. They are total strangers who you can’t figure out why they are following you until you go to their web site and see what they are offering. Lots of businesses and non-profits, particularly restaurants and wineries, in our area are doing this well.

A fourth type are what I consider the p****ography twitters. (They would see that last word and bombard me.) They tend to have photos of cute girls and cute girl names but they are explicitly or implicitly unappealing to me. You’ll notice they follow lots of people and have very few followers and often very few tweets. I don’t understand their angle and haven’t bothered to find out.

These last two types you can simply block unless you are interested in their tweets.

    On Following and Followers.

The way to find like minded people is to search for your key terms. When you find someone you like and are going to follow if you go through the people they are following and their followers you’ll find more like minded people who care about the issue you are looking for.

So if you looked at what I follow you’d see my family members and their businesses. You’d see that I follow politics, particularly California politics and Sonoma County politics. I also have a strong interest in children’s issues so I follow some thoughtful people who write or blog about this.

Finally I also have a strong interests in technology use in government and public affairs and people who are thinking about what could happen next. If you want to survey this topic I have a Child Welfare Wiki where you can look at this.

  • Suffering Fools

    7/9/2009 8:23 PM
Today on the way to San Mateo County I listened to the background story on Sonya Sotomayor.
Sotomayor: Tough Kid Turns Unintimidated Judge
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106415875

The quote that stood out for me was how she would “suffer fools”; that meant she would listen to people she disagreed with. Or, alternatively, she would hear someone out even if they were wrong.

There are several ways to listen, and suffer, and deal with fools. In my case the variations come forth as the following haiku.

    I can suffer fools
    By listening carefully
    To their drip drip drip

    Suffer fools suffer
You were born to it because
    You are so stupid
(I’m usually not this “catty” but this is about variations on a theme. It has to be said.)

    Suffering all fools
    Is a way to leadership
    At times all are fools

Listening is more important than talking. And we are all fools sometimes. It’s reassuring to have a judge who learned these lessons.

  • “Evidentialogical”

So I misheard something, I think it was the word epidemiological. But once I thought of the word I misheard, “Evidentialogical”, I thought it had a meaning.

Evidentialogical is the branch of thought that deals with the study of the causes, distribution, and control of facts. Evidentialogy deals with how the use of facts should inform knowledge and decisions. It could be the branch of thought dealing with the incidence and prevalence of facts in large bodies of evidence and with detection of the source and cause of truth.

Used in a sentence = “Perhaps we could do a small evidentialogical experiment on the evidentialogy of “evidentialogical.” Then we would have some solid evidence. We would like to see if truth and facts can be deduced and explained by the evidentialogical elements.”
