I missed an important poem in the update

Standing watching the dawn of a new year
holding out the hope something can calm my fear
Walking stumbling into the misty morning
Bringing memories forward watching for a warning
Looking seeing dark clouds forming
Do they bring rain or just foreboding
Early dawn bringing a year and a day
Trepidation cast in this new foray

for my sons

Here are some things I have learned over the years

People who receive a kindness are often not gracious
People who are extremely smart are often difficult to get along with
People who are well-educated are not necessarily the best at what they do
People who complain of a situation are often at the center of the situation both causing it and enduring it.
People who are kind are willingly fooled
People who are mean resent being fooled
People who are fools can’t tell the difference
People want the best for their kids
People who endure grave illness are not weak even when their body is
People who live a life of pain and great sorrow are open to recognizing great joy
Great joy is seldom found while it be is being overlooked
Great joy is behind our eyes
Great joy is within our view
Great joy is here and now
Great joy is not coming
Great joy is here
The probability that your heart will be broken is very high
Let your heart out anyway
The probability that you will be disappointed by some parts of your life is certain
Live your life anyway
Any way you want

080308 Albee Creek Redwoods - God's summer home

Grief lingers deep in the heart
and massages the weary soul
to have its way in most unexpected moments

Grief comes to the mind whenever
it chooses to again step forth
because it has something to say to stir the depths

Grieving has its own current
It ebbs or it flows then waxes
even in a stream of joy and contentment

As the heart has its reasons
which reasoning knows nothing of
Grief washes over or undercuts the spirit

Grief is a life companion
once it has made an acquaintance
but seldom with fond forgiven memories

Only the cause of the grief
Loving and laughter lost imbues
the precious in heart and mind and soul forever

The numbers rolling all around my head
As fractions of my life somehow will meld
The whole number of my final being
Some minuses, even some pluses, dread
Always should add up to the parts once held
To become the whole number of being
If I could add up the emotions spread
And find the portion my own logic quelled
I could add to number of my being
Perhaps for all the words that could be said
there is a theorem which could be impelled
To sum the whole number of my being
Subtotals or fractions some have fled
Irrational forces unparalleled
That formed the whole number of my being

Tears and willows

Tears and sadness
Mixed with gratitude and gladness
Of lives well lived
Because we give to each other
All that is in our hearts

The trick
Is to glide through the illusion
That we understand
And be
In each glorious moment

We can enhance the web of knowledge
And experience the best of our time
Making something good

Tears yet gratitude
For all we have been given
In the lives we have shared

Each of us who remains in this realm
Honor in the depths
The blessings we carry forward

We do well to acknowledge what has passed
But is not lost
We deserve to be happy

Tears and willows

Why do we hire poets so they can tell us the obvious?

Change is a continuous part of life.
The simple contains the profound.
The profound is often simple.
Sunlight and air belong to all.
Hope and despair trade places regularly.
Honoring the planet honors ourselves.
Love is the solution, the answer, the problem, the everything.
Not a bad poet
Sharing when we know it
The simple is profound
we see it all around
Hope emerges
then it merges
with air and light and sound

drink like a young lady

You shouldn’t drink like a young lady
but you think like a young lady
and you sing like a young lady
and you dance like a young lady
as you move through time

You shouldn’t think like a young lady
because then you wink like a young lady
and you’ll drink like a young lady
and you’ll laugh
as you move through time

If you laughed like a young lady
and you were a nice young lady
and you danced like a young lady
I would find you there
and show I care
for winks and drinks and time

Awaiting the dawn

Fall leaves

Awaiting the dawn
Leaves flutter and spin
Light from the east a promise
For this thing to begin again

Travelling in the light
Of tenuous connection
To seeing the way bright or dark
Opaque through a reflection

Passing time passing days
Hold on to these illusions
That what we give and what we take
Will lead to clear conclusions

Wondering how the leaves can hold
Until another dose of sun
Withered yet secure until
New buds in time begun

Wind and trees and wind
This night sky be blowin’ thru
House of green crashed down
